We had the most amazing stay at the luxurious Mary Budden Estate. The estate is located in the middle of the Binsar wildlife sanctuary. It’s a 4 hour car ride up from Kathgodam. Once there you’ll be surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful views of the mountains and valleys all around. The rooms are well designed and feel extremely comfortable and warm. There are no TVs to distract you and although they have Wi-Fi, it could be a little patchy. The idea is to disconnect from everything and indulge in the breathtaking views and serenity this place has to offer. We were very well taken care of by the staff and the manager who made our stay special. Chef Neupane makes sure every meal here is well thought out and each dish is unique and flavourful. Most of the ingredients and produce here are locally sourced and absolutely fresh. We had the best 3 days here amidst nature.
My experience at the Mary Budden Estate was TERRIBLE. I DO NOT recommend for foreigners (I travelled from my home province in Canada in February). It seems like the good reviews are only from locals. My bad experience is because of the customer services rep that helped book the stay. She did not say was a laborious and uncomfortable ride it would be up a very narrow road around and around the large mountain. There was no heat other than a man made fire in the rooms which would die during the night. For a place that doesn’t allow things like electric shavers and hair dryers they contradict themselves with heated bed pads and other things. I fell sick the night we arrived since I got out of the shower and my hair immediately froze and there was no hairdryer or any way to dry my hair quick enough before I caught a cold. The staff on premise are absolutely amazing, but the Sneha, Samiksha and Kirpalini were all unhelpful and untrustworthy. Once again I do not recommend. I informed Mary Budden that I wanted to reduce my stay from 3 nights to just the 1 night but they said they would not provide a refund or transportation. There is no legal clause that they could provide with the cancellation details. The operation is sketchy and it is seemingly operating on preserved wildlife land which brings up a whole legality aspect to the legitimacy of the business itself. I gave service 3 stars: the on premise staff were so nice and so kind and I would give them 5 stars, I would give the operations staff including the names I have provided a 0 star rating if I could.
What a terrific place! A quaint spot hidden away in the thicket of Binsar sanctuary. Very elegant in its appointments, grand in its decor and laid back yet very charming in its service. Don’t expect blazing fast internet services, the latest IPL match screening or pumping up the hottest hits on Spotify (it’s a wildlife sanctuary, duh!) – perfect for when you want to switch off and disappear. But if you are someone who is used to ordering in via room service at midnight’s or loves a mini bar in your room or want fresh linen everytime you wipe your face, then Mary Budden isn’t for you. For the rest, it’ll be your best find yet.
British estate in pristine oak forest overlooking the Binsar Wildlife sanctuary. Tastefully preserved and redone with immaculate interiors. You are amazed by the international and local cuisine inspired fare served by them in the middle of a forest where even water is brought from kilometers away.
Cheerful and hardworking staff add to your experience. We had a great New Year eve experience and a fantastic stay.
Well done Mary Budden Estate team
Deep into the beautifully dense woods is nestled the idyllic Mary Budden Estate, Binsar, where we had a lifetime experience….the beginning of snowfall, continuing for two full days, everything turning white and, then, back to all the myriad hues of green. We were told that our family was the first-ever witness to a very heavy, unprecedented snowfall, which caught the management unawares. However, full marks to every single member of the staff who went out of the way to serve top-class meals, keep the beautiful cottage warm with an unending supply of crisp firewood in the fireplaces, and take care of all our possible needs. Enjoyed our visit and stay to the hilt and looking forward to visiting again.
