Location and rooms are very good. Great scenery, amazing waterfall and a river flowing beside the resort. The setting is picturesque and relaxing. The major con, service is slow. Food orders take a long long time which needs improvement. The approach road to resort is through a river or a long loop road which is not in good shape. A better road would help.
Location is good, rooms are clean n beautiful but impractical.
The room was quite small, with limited space for luggage, making it challenging for more than one person to move around.
The main concern was the service. Since we had an early checkout the next day, I had informed the staff the previous evening that we needed breakfast ready by 8 AM. They assured us that while there wouldn’t be a buffet, we could choose from the menu and it would be ready on time.
Unfortunately, when we waited until 7:45 AM, there was no staff present at the property, and we had to make several calls to reach someone
Our driver, who also stayed there, requested a non-vegetarian option from the menu, but he was informed that nothing was available. Next day the driver was venting on us that he did not eat any dinner.
Although breakfast was included in the tariff, some additional charges was added to the bill. So according to them breakfast is two pieces of bread and an omelet and anything extra is chargeable, which was not communicated to us either during the pre-order or in the morning.
I would expect resort to specify these during booking so customers are aware what to expect.
Had a great stay at Oakley Groves in their cute cottages. It is situated right next to the Choskorong waterfall with the gurgling stream flowing by. Service has been excellent from the catering staff, as well as the complimentary breakfast. The location is a bit off-road so prepare your vehicle likewise. One thing is that due to a power cut, the attendant guy wanted to switch off the backup generator at 10 pm, which is too early for a resort. That too with such pretty fairy lights and a night view. The matter got promptly resolved when we called the manager, so thank you for cooperating. Shall visit again.
The views from the resort are terrific with the gurgling stream providing a soothing soundtrack the whole time. The rooms are cozy with comfortable furniture.
We reached there around 6:30 pm. We were completely unfamiliar with the area so we contacted the resort for directions. The resort staff was very patient in helping us reach their location however the road to the resort from the highway is terrible. At least there was an alternative path to having to cross an unmarked stream in the dark. Some other guests also had the same problem. They really need to install better signage and post an accurate location online.
We were planning to stay for 2 nights but had to cut it short and leave after just the 1st night because our room’s geyser wasn’t working. It was a major oversight on the resort’s part to not have checked that something as necessary as the geyser was functional or not before renting out the room.
We stayed in this property for two nights on 12.10.2024 and 13.10.2024. We were a group of three. The booking was confirmed for cottege 102. But were given accommodation in cottege 101. We did not mind.
Check-in experience: We arrived at around 2:20 pm and to our surprise there was no body manning the reception! After catching hold of a staff we could get the information that the receptionist is busy at the kitchen serving lunch orders! After some waiting we finally got to our cottege.
Rooms: It was advertised in the website that each triangular cottege can accommodate upto 4 persons and that is a real stretch of imaginaiton! The cotteges look cute from the outside and inside. But the layout is totally impractical. It was a two-tier arrangement with a double bed at the ground level and a fixed ladder to climb to the upper floor where you’ll find only two matteress thrown on the wooden floor with blanket and pillows and nothing else. The ladder was very steep and dangerous to climb up or down especially if you want to go the toilet in the middle of the night. There is hardly any room in the ground level even to stand for three persons. There was a tiny closet where our three medium sized travel bags cannot even be stuffed.
Toilet: The faucet at the wash basin was loose. The seat cover of the commode was loose with one of the holding screws was broken.
Service: They will serve you boiled egg in the breakfast with no accompanying salt and pepper on the table. I could get only salt after serching all over the place for some time. But I could not get pepper. When asked for pepper, the answer was “kitchen me hoga”!! After repeated and forceful requests a small bowl of pink salt was placed on our table!! So much for the service!! I cannot blame the stuff. I feel the owner of this property is solely responsible for such a predicament.
Location: The only redeeming feature of this property is the location. A charming mountain stream flows right next to the property. From the dining table next to the reception hut you can have a view of the nearby Choskorong waterfall. Though it is a tiny waterfall, to have breakfast with the view of a waterfall is a charming experience. I am quoting in verbatime from their website -“Indulge your senses with a mesmerizing view of cascading waterfalls, nature’s serene masterpiece at our location”. The reality is that they are murdering the serenity of the ambience with loud music which is totally out of sink with the surrounding natural beauty.
Conclusion: Terribly understaffed with untrained personnel and overprised. We have payed Rs. 5000 per cottege per day and I feel it is overprised when they cannot even provide black pepper. Oh yeah – the wifi was not working! They have constructed a bar next to the stream and it seems the only aim of the management is to make profit by selling alcohol. I will not recommend Oakley Groves to my fellow travellers and if I visit Shergaon for the second time, I will stay away from this property.
